When using an aircraft radio, all groups of letters, aircraft call signs, location indicators, etc. have to be spelt out using the internationally recognized phonetic alphabet.  Only some letter groups which by everyday use have become unmistakable, e.g. ILS, ETA, CTR etc. may be spoken in the normal way.

Pilots must learn the phonetic alphabet below before attempting to use the radio installation in an aircraft!
