The Wits Flying Club Code of Conduct is applicable to all members. Please read and comply with the Code of Conduct as it forms the basis of our operation. The most recent rules can be found in the Useful Documents section.
Introduction
These rules and regulations are laid down by the Committee from time to time for the efficient running of the Club and its aircrafts.
All members will be deemed to have acquainted themselves with these Rules and Regulations and acknowledgements thereof is made by signing the flight authorisation sheet. Notifications of any additions, alterations or amendments shall be displayed on the Club notice board.
General
The pilot in command of an aircraft shall be responsible at all time for the safety of the aircraft, its contents and passengers or cargo.
The pilot in command will ensure he complies with all state, local and CAA regulations which are pertinent to any flight to be undertaken by the pilot.
The importance of these requirements cannot be overstressed and if any doubt exists as to the interpretations or meanings of any rules or regulations, any committee member or the Chief Flying Instructor will gladly assist in clarifying any doubt.
Aircrafts
The aircraft must be left in a clean and tidy condition after each flight. Remember to leave the aircraft in the condition in which you would like to find it. Keys, headsets and the flight bag must be returned to the Club after every flight.
All snags or damage, however small or insignificant they may seem must be reported in the snag section of the authorisation sheet.
Any damage will be for the pilot’s account and must be covered by the pilot’s excess insurance and paid to the aircraft owner.
All over-border flights must be approved by the Chairman, the Chief Flying Instructor and the aircraft owner.
Hire rates for aircrafts will be determined by the Club Committee from time to time.
Aircraft hire out on for weekdays or weekends will be determined on aircraft availability and bookings and aircraft utilisation.
Fuel is included in the hire rate except in over border flights where the difference will be paid for by the pilot. Fuel should only be purchased by members with the individual aircraft credit cards. Fuel may not be purchased on behalf of the Club.
Fire extinguishers, first aid kits and strips belong to the aircraft and must remain in the individual aircraft, they should only be removed in the case of an emergency and be replaced afterwards.
Landing fees and any other charges, such as route, approach and parking fees are not included in the aircraft hire rate and are the responsibility of the pilot in command.
Aircraft fuel tanks must not be filled when you return from your flight, it is the responsibility of the next pilot to determine the amount of fuel he/she will need.
After every flight the pilot must ensure that the aircraft is securely tied down and that the flight controls are locked.
Authorisation
All flights must be authorised by the Club instructor in case of a student pilot or by a duty member in the case of other pilots. No member is permitted to fly without this authorisation.
Authorisation book for the specific aircraft must be filled in with the correct Hobbs meter reading.
Only current members of the Club may fly the Club aircraft once they have had a duel-check flight with a Club instructor, without exceptions.
Notwithstanding any set out in any regulations a pilot will be considered to be current on type if he/she has completed 5 (five) take-offs and landings in the preceding 6 (six) weeks. If a pilot is not current he/she must undergo a dual-check with a Club instructor.
Bookings
Bookings should not be cancelled less than 24 hours before the flight.
“No show” will be penalised with a set rate of R 250, this rate will be set by the Club Committee from time to time.
Students and pilots may only fly with instructors approved by the Club Committee and the Chief Flying Instructor.
Payments
Subs are annual and are set by the Club Committee or at the Annual General Meeting.
All flying is strictly on a “cash only” basis or credit card payment.
Any members with a debit balance on his/her account may be stopped from flying until the account is settled in full.
All account queries must be referred to the bookings clerk at the Club.
Behaviour
The Club is a public place and members should avoid using a bad or foul language in the Club.
All members must behave in a proper businesslike manner and address other members, staff and committee members in a dignified manner.
No member is allowed behind the counter in the Club, only staff and authorised members are allowed.
Telephone
No members is allowed to use the Club phone without permission from the staff member or a member of the Club Committee, except in the case of an emergency.
The Club telephone is for Club business only and not to be used for private use. Any member who does not follow this rule will be subject to disciplinary action by the Club Committee and may be dismissed from the Club.
Other
No equipment, documents or aviation material may be removed from the Club without permission from the Club Committee.
Any requests for documents, minutes of meetings or related subjects must be submitted in writing to the Club Committee for approval with valid reasons for such requests one month before the required date.
